Take a Virtual Field Trip with Google Maps

Overview


By using Google Maps, you can explore an area from a bird’s eye view, at street level, or even inside the building! Today you will take a trip to the Freedom Tower, also known as One World Trade Center.

Directions
  1. Click the Apps launcher 
     
    and then Google Maps. 
  1. Type in One World Trade Center.
  2. Scroll down in the white navigation box to find some Quick Facts. Click on the image below for a gif on what to do.

  1. Find something you did not know and write it in your journal.
  2. Click the Earth box in the lower left corner to see a 3-D perspective.
  1. Drag the Pegmanfrom the lower right corner to One World Trade Center.
  2. Take a walk around the site using the x and arrow. Click here for instructions on how to do that.
  3. Explore other features on the map as you wish.
  4. To close, click the x on the tab at the top of the page.
Your Turn
  1. Now, using your journal (digital or paper) brainstorm some ways in which you can use Google Maps to take a virtual field trip with your class.
  2. Find something you did not know and write it in your journal.
